Frwrnais- Wales Millenium Centre
As a designer on the refurbishment of Frwrnais—now the main public space at the Wales Millennium Centre—I was responsible for full interior concepts, bespoke furniture design, materials and finishes, as well as all visualisation and technical drawing packages (2D and 3D).
Designed at Viewport.

Cardiff, Wales

Spanning the full width of the building’s central bay, Frwrnais transforms what was once a transactional ticketing area into a vibrant, multi-purpose space for eating, drinking, working, meeting, and engaging with the Centre’s programme.
To improve acoustics and bring more light into the space, we designed new white acoustic ceiling panels that overlay the existing bronze structure. A central, sinuous oak counter—designed in-house—serves as both bar and café at one end, with integrated high-level seating at the other.
Zoning was achieved by pouring resin over the original terrazzo floor to distinguish areas for food and beverage, co-working, and informal meetings. Curved banquettes define the edges of these zones, while each area features bespoke furniture tailored to its function—from café seating and lounge pieces to co-working tables.
A custom-designed video wall spans the rear, adding movement and energy through shifting digital content and forming a dynamic backdrop to the space.
Since completion, Frwrnais has become a well-used, welcoming hub for locals and visitors alike—reclaiming a previously underused part of the building as a key part of public life at WMC.
