Adatto Chair

We were commissioned to design a versatile, affordable, and comfortable stacking chair suitable for both commercial and domestic environments. I led the design and development of the Adatto Chair, with a focus on simplicity, material efficiency, and adaptability.

The design process began with a commitment to reduction—minimising the number of components to create a clean, honest form. The final chair comprises just four key elements: two types of bent tubular steel legs, a flat plywood seat, and a gently curved plywood backrest that wraps around to form subtle armrests. The curves in the steel frame are driven by the stacking geometry, allowing for efficient storage and transport.

The seat itself is a softened square, designed without complex moulding, making it both cost-effective and visually approachable. The backrest dips at the sides to provide natural support and a more generous sitting posture, bridging the comfort of a dining chair with the casual functionality of a side chair.

The Adatto Chair is available in a wide range of finishes, with optional upholstered seat pads for added comfort and customisation. Its adaptability and clean silhouette make it ideal for cafés, co-working spaces, meeting rooms, and home interiors alike.
